The Birthplace of Japan – Nara, Japan

Beginning in Nara with Heijokyo, the nation’s first capital, Japan’s history as a unified state dates back 1300 years to the Nara Period. Around this time, Buddhism flourished and arts and architecture were at their peak.

This ancient city is home to three World Heritage sites, comprising Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara, Buddhist Monuments in the Horyuji Area, and Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range. Filled with natural beauty, charming townscapes and National Treasures, Nara is less than an hour by train from Kyoto and Osaka, and easily accessible from Tokyo.

Meeting registration is open! Register by April 19, 2023 to receive Early Bird Pricing.

As a reminder, for each accepted abstract at least one (1) co-author must be registered by the Early Bird Deadline to be included in the scientific program and published in the journal Supportive Care in Cancer. Typically, this is the presenting author.

Booking a Hotel Room:

The host hotel is the JW Marriott Hotel Nara (1 Chome-1 Sanjooji, Nara 630-8013, Japan), connected by skybridge to the Nara Prefectural Convention Center. MASCC has arranged preferred group rates for our delegates, pending availability. We have also arranged preferred group rates at other surrounding hotels.

Preferred group rate rice ranges for your reference:

JW Marriott Hotel Nara is JPY 43,000 per night, based on up to two people in the room, without breakfast, subject to 12% service and 10% tax = JPY 52,976 per night total cost – Bookings must be made by May 15, 2023 to receive preferred group rates
The surrounding hotels will range from JPY 15,000 to JPY 45,000 based on up to two people in the room, including service and taxes. These will range from a 8 minute – 20 minute walk from the meeting venue – Bookings must be made by June 7, 2023 to receive preferred group rates

Booking Flights:

Before booking your flights, please ensure that you meet the entry requirements for Japan noted below. You may be required to apply for an entry visa to Japan (see below for more information).

We have provided two images below to help you select the appropriate airport to fly into:

Image 1: Travel to closest airports to Nara and ground transportation options to Nara. This will interest delegates planning to fly directly to/from the Annual Meeting (without any plans to tour around Japan before/after the Annual Meeting). ***Note: Some bus schedules are suspended at this time. There are alternative ground transportation options by train.***
Image 2: Travel to Japan and the various airport options. This will interest delegates planning to tour around Japan before/after the Annual Meeting.

The airport you select will depend on your individual travel plans and the available flights/airlines from your home city.

If you require a visa, MASCC will connect you with a local agency to assist you with your application (additional costs apply). This introduction cannot be made until we have confirmed that you are registered and have paid the registration fee to attend the 2023 Annual Meeting. It is advised to allow three months for the visa application process. Assistance will be available starting the end of February 2023. You may also wish to complete the visa application directly with Japanese officials and may not want the support of a local agency.
