Workshop 1: Partnering with patients in managing chronic toxicities of cancer and its treatment
Chaired by Prof Maryam Lustberg & Prof Tingting Zhang
The purpose of this workshop is to bring together multidisciplinary professionals, cancer patients, survivors and carers to compare best practices for managing chronic effects of cancer and its treatment. Topics discussed will include;
– What are the unmet needs of patients and areas for focus,
– Who should be involved in comprehensive care plans and when should they be engaged,
– How can monitoring and education be best tailored to each person as they navigate a complex health system.

Workshop 2: Development and Management of a Department of Supportive Oncology in a Major Cancer Center

Educational Objectives:
- Inform a multidisciplinary audience of the clinical need for a formal Department of Supportive Oncology
- Describe the administrative, clinical operational, and academic implications of a structured Department
- Identify the challenges and opportunities inherent in creation of a novel Department
- Establish a vision for the future for these services in all Cancer Centers and the role of MASCC and Centers of Excellence in that initiative

Workshop 3: Beyond Survivorship 101: Building advanced skills in survivorship care
Chaired by Prof Michael Jefford & Prof Larissa Nekhlyudov
Presentation
- Describe a framework for a systematic approach to conducting a cancer survivorship clinic consultation
- Describe the domains of cancer survivorship care and offer an approach to assessing bio-psycho-social needs during a clinical consultation
- Demonstrate common behavioural counselling techniques including motivational interviewing and goal setting
- Outline documentation strategies to optimize interprofessional communication and care coordination as well as patient education
Demonstration / role play
- The session will include 3 case scenarios of different levels of clinical complexity
- Attendees will be able to watch a demonstration and then practice
- Feedback from the audience and course leaders will be offered
