New MASCC Tool on Cancer-Related Cognitive Impairment

Introducing the MASCC COG-IMPACT. The MASCC COG-IMPACT is the first multi-domain purpose-built unmet needs assessment tool assessing the impact of cancer-related cognitive impairment. Specifically, the MASCC COG-IMPACT is a fit-for-purpose self-report tool that assesses the difficulties and unmet needs directly related to cancer-related cognitive impairment.

The tool is designed to support health professionals in providing highly individualized and optimal care to cancer survivors as well as facilitate appropriate referral, support service provision, guide further assessment, and inform clinical and healthcare discussions. The MASCC COG-IMPACT can also be used by researchers aiming to better understand, or minimize the impact of, cancer-related cognitive impairment on the lives of cancer survivors.

The tool contains 55 items and eight subscales to provide a broad understanding of the impact of cancer-related cognitive impairment on multiple domains of functioning. The MASCC COG-IMPACT can be used in combination with objective and subjective measures to provide a joint indication of cognitive impairment, as well as the difficulties and unmet needs relating to an individual’s cognitive impairment.

The MASCC COG-IMPACT was developed through a rigorous multistage, mixed-methods co-design approach and has been shown to be highly reliable and valid.

The MASCC COG-IMPACT tool, as well as resources to support its use, such as a manual and an automatic scoring sheet, can be accessed and downloaded completely free of charge from the MASCC website.

We encourage you to also read the publication detailing the development and validation of the MASCC COG-IMPACT.
