New Publication from the Mucositis Study Group

A task force of the Mucositis Study Group recently published an article in Supportive Care in Cancer examining clinicians’ experience with topical benzydamine and morphine for the management of oral mucositis.

“I am very excited about this publication as both topical benzydamine and topical morphine are recommended by the 2020 MASCC/ISOO clinical guidelines for the management of oral mucositis,” says lead author Ariel Blanchard.

“Until now there has been very little information available about the risks associated with prescribing these agents for the management of oral mucositis. This publication demonstrates that while adverse events related to topical benzydamine and morphine are common, the majority are mild. These findings will help inform clinicians regarding the risks of using these topical agents and hopefully increase the agents’ use in the management of oral mucositis.”
