These policies pertain to any and all announcements, listings, advertising, or distribution of books and other media on the MASCC website as well as via exhibits and meetings.

In all of the policies below, the words “books” and “other media” should be understood to mean books or media with a focus on supportive care in cancer.

MASCC Website

Announcement of New Books by MASCC Members

The following policies apply to the announcement of new books on the MASCC website.*

  1. The book must have a publication date within the past year.
  2. One of the authors or editors must be a MASCC member.
  3. Authors, editors, or publishers may submit a request to have a book announced. Such requests should contain necessary details (authors/editors, publisher, publication date) and a brief overview of the contents. Requests may be submitted to MASCC Executive Director, or the Web Editor or Manager (contact information below).
  4. The Web Editor or Web Manager may also recommend the addition of books that come to their attention.
  5. When the book’s content is relevant to the focus of a MASCC Study Group, a notice and link will be included on the Study Group’s web page.
  6. All book listings must be approved by the Chair of the Publications Committee or the Executive Director.
  7. The announcement of books on supportive care on the MASCC website is a membership benefit, and there is no cost to either the author or publisher.

*Books may also be announced in the MASCC Society News.

Listing of Older Books by MASCC Members and Relevant Books by Non-members

The following policies apply to the listing of books of interest to MASCC members on the MASCC website.

  1. Authors or editors may be MASCC members or non-members.
  2. Authors, editors, or publishers may submit a request to have a book announced. Such requests should contain necessary details (authors/editors, publisher, publication date) and a brief overview of the contents. Requests may be submitted to MASCC Executive Director, or the Web Editor or Manager (contact information below).
  3. The Web Editor or Web Manager may also recommend the addition of books that come to their attention.
  4. Books authored or edited by a MASCC Study Group (SG) member on a topic of SG interest will be listed on the SG’s web page.
  5. All book listings must be approved by the Chair of the Publications Committee or the Executive Director.
  6. Relevant supportive care books will be listed at no cost to authors, editors, or publishers.
  7. Books more than 5 years old may be removed at the discretion of the Web Editor or Publications Committee.

Discounted Books

Several publishers (Springer, Oxford, Oncology Nursing Society) offer discounts to MASCC members on books pertaining to supportive care in cancer. The following policies apply.

  1. Books by MASCC members as well as non-members are available for such discounts and will be listed as long as a discount is in effect.
  2. Authors, editors, or publishers may submit a request to have a book announced. Such requests should contain necessary details (authors/editors, publisher, publication date) and a brief overview of the contents.
  3. The Web Editor or Web Manager may also recommend the addition of books that come to their attention.

MASCC Exhibits, Meetings, Mailings, Other

Display, Advertisement, or Distribution of Books at MASCC Exhibits and Meetings (e.g., Study Group Meetings)

Materials displayed at MASCC Exhibits must meet the following conditions.

  1. Books must be authored or edited by MASCC members.
  2. Books will be for display only, not for sale.
  3. Printed materials on display must be approved by the Chair of the Publications Committee or the Executive Director.

Books or brochures distributed or advertised at MASCC meetings (such as Study Group meetings) must meet the following conditions.

  1. All books and other media must be approved by the Chair of the meeting.
  2. All advertising or mention of books or other media should be relevant to MASCC’s mission — the improvement of supportive care in cancer.
